Recreation Commission Minutes 10/19/06
Evendale Recreation Commission
October 19, 2006

Called to order at 7:35 am.

Roll Call: David Nichols, Michelle Gottschlich, Wayne Mosley, Mary Lou Isaac, Gus Janszen, Craig Reeder. Absent: Doug Lohmeier, Pam Meyers.

Recognition of visitors: none

Motion to approve September minutes made by Wayne Mosley; seconded by Gus Janszen. Motion approved.

New Business:
·       Request by Kristen Maiden to amend current PAYS policy. Parents would receive a parental “good sportsmanship” reminder form each season; and parents/guardian only need to view the video once unless there is a problem. Motion made by Wayne Mosley; seconded by Michele Gottschlich. Motion approved.
·       This fall’s “new” SAY soccer league affiliation has been going very well. The Challenger Sports trainer has been doing a great job. A few things for the U-6 level are being “tweaked” for the upcoming 2007 spring season.

Old Business:
·       Tri-Health Report – as reported.

Director’s Report:
·       Kristen Maiden and Wayne Mosley met with Sherwin Anderson. Sherwin will return this fall to train with our youth basketball teams. He will conduct a coaches’ clinic before the season starts; then work with each coach at least once early in the season. If a coach requests an additional training session, Sherwin will be available. As Sherwin works with each team and coach, other coaches are urged to attend those practices to observe. Sherwin has had reliability problems in the past. Commission recommends adding a few additional clauses in the contractual agreement.
·       Robert Lang, volunteer coach from St. Michael’s church, is requesting use of a gym for practices. Commission agrees that if the other gym is open for residents to use for open gym, then St. Michael’s may rent a gym for practice.
·       Motion to renew Tri Health Fitness Management’s contract, for the second year of a three year contract, made by Wayne Mosley; seconded by Michele Gottschlich. Motion approved.
·       Motion to renew Swim Safe Pool Management’s contract, for the second year of a three year contract, made by Wayne Mosley; seconded by Mary Lou Isaac. Motion approved.
·       A test questionnaire regarding building a skatepark was handed out to Commission members. Copies were mailed to resident James Owens and handed out at the recent Phi Lambda Pi. The final version of the questionnaire will be sent (at this time randomly) to residents and posted on the website later this year.
·       Trails Update: Chris Schaefer referenced the Park Hills trail at the recent council meeting. It is Commission’s opinion that representatives from Council, Public Works, Recreation, Park Hills, Gorman Heritage Farm, and Griffin Park get together and collaborate regarding the trails throughout the village. Dave, Wayne, Michele, and Mary Lou will discuss the issue with the council committee at their next meeting.

Phi Lambda Pi Report:
·       The “First Annual Fresh Meat Competition” concluded with Craig Reeder and Bria Kramer taking first place; followed by Adam Rasfeld and Brady Eagan. Everyone had a good time. It is up to the governing committee to decide if there will be a second annual competition.
·       Candle and Entertainment book sales continue through the end of the year.
·       Three members volunteered at the Mother Son Night of Fun.

Open Discussion:
·       Gus Janszen asked about purchasing new basketballs. They are already on order.
·       Dave will email commission members when Council Committee’s next meeting date and time is announced.
·       Please note: the next Commission meeting will be Thursday, November 9th, 2006 at 7:30 am.

Motion to adjourn made at 8:36 am by Gus Janszen; seconded by Wayne Mosley. Motion approved.
